OBJECTIVES: Students will become familiar with bird biology by doing a worksheet and putting a bird together from the inside out.

Background: Birds' bodies have adapted to their fast paced lifestyles. These adaptations are discussed in detail in the Anatomy & Physiology section of The Bird Site.

Materials: Bird Parts worksheet, scissors, and glue.

How to:

  1. Talk about the internal structure of a bird. Refer to the Birds: Inside-Out section of this guide.
  2. Pass out the enclosed worksheet.
  3. Have the students cut out the lungs, heart, intestines, brain, and kidney and paste them in the correct location inside the bird outline.
