OBJECTIVES: Students will become aware of the role birds play in their everyday lives.
SUBJECTS: Language Arts and Art
GRADES: 3 - 7
LENGTH: 1 - 2 hours

Background: Many of the commercial products and company logos that we see everyday use birds and their names. Birds themselves and their images play a large role in our lives and opinions everyday.

Materials: Paper, pencil, poster board, and markers.

How to:

  1. Divide the class into several teams or companies. After lengthy corporate research it has been determined that a connection to birds is a big selling point for products these days. Each company of kids is responsible for designing a product and an ad campaign to go with it, trying to sell their bird related product.
  2. Each team should choose one item from this list of products: sports car, computer, skateboard, cartoon, fast-food restaurant, rock band, cereal, chair, and stuffed animal.
  3. Each groups must come up with a name and drawing of their product and invent a TV commercial for it. The TV commercials can be acted out for the rest of the class. An example for diapers would be "Stork Brand Diapers, arrive fresh and clean on your doorstep everyday".
