classroom activities header

This series of classroom activities is designed to help young people develop an appreciation, respect and understanding of the diversity and nature of birds.

The activities are written for teachers and are designed to be adaptable for grades K-12. After a preliminary review of the activities, teachers can modify their approach or chosen language as appropriate to their students grade level.

Teachers are encouraged to branch out beyond the suggested activities, to engage in class discussion, writing or observation, depending on the method of learning most suitable for the students involved.

When possible, students should be encouraged to visit The Bird Site, and if the opportunity presents itself, to visit the Ralph W. Schreiber Hall of Birds which is located at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

Classroom activities can be reviewed by selecting a topic from the menu on the left.

Links to specific classroom activities are also provided from related presentations within the on-line presentation. Just look for this icon.

We hope your visit to The Bird Site is enriching and that you find these tools useful in bringing that experience to the classroom.
