THE BETTER TO EAT YOU WITH

The teeth of an animal can tell you a lot about its diet and behavior.

Compare the teeth of the puma and the wolf to see what you can learn. (click on the teeth to change from puma to wolf and from wolf to puma)

  • Which animal has the shortest snout?
The puma. Its short snout gives the cat a powerful bite with its front teeth.
  • Which has the biggest canine teeth?
The canine teeth of the cat are larger and stronger. The wolf's canines are more slender and knife-shaped. The stronger teeth and bite of cats allows them to kill fairly large prey with a single bite. Wolves use their knife-shaped canines to slash their prey.
  • How do their molars differ?
The puma's molars are sharp and come together like scissor blades. The wolf's molars are flat like your molars. The wolf uses its flat molars to grind and crush small bones, while the puma uses its molars to cut skin and meat.
