CATS! WILD TO MILD | CONSERVATION

SELF-PORTRAIT

Using hidden automatic cameras, UCLA and National Park Service scientists are recording pumas and other carnivores near housing developments in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Each time the puma goes after the bait and steps on the plate, its picture is taken. This information can be used to identify habitats that are critical for wildlife and to learn more about the habits of pumas in settled areas.

The Expedition Into the Parks project is sponsored by the Canon Corporation as part of its Clean Earth Campaign. In this project scientists and volunteers are working together to help conserve and protect natural resources in the National Parks.
