Classroom Collections
An entire museum at your school!

Support for the Educators’ Loan Program is supported in part by a grant from Washington Mutual.
Support for teacher resources is provided by Hitachi SCRCAC.

The Classroom Collections are collections of approximately 200 museum quality science specimens, historical objects and models, and cultural artifacts that are made available for loan to any qualified School or School District for the period of one school year.  During this period, the material may be utilized in the classrooms, libraries, science centers and laboratories of the school or district, according to the needs of individual teachers. Having the museum items housed directly at a public or private school or district provides maximum accessibility for the teaching staff.

With a classroom collection, you can:

  • enliven curriculum
  • integrate subject studies
  • teach research skills
  • enhance creative writing
  • supplement oral reports
  • enrich art experiences
  • implement thematic instruction – biomes, ecology, endangered species, cultural awareness

Each available collection can be utilized in all areas of the school curriculum according to the needs of individual teachers. The collections are a great way to enrich the standard curriculum in schools with real artifacts, bringing a small part of the extensive museum collection directly to the students. With the collections at their hands for an entire school year, students and teachers are given the rare chance for in-depth study of the items and its value.
