COLLAPSE? Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County

COLLAPSE?

EVENTS

On May 6th, join us for a guided tour through Collapse?. Explore our past and consider our future with us as we take a behind-the-scenes look at Collapse? after hours. Dance (or walk if you must) through the exhibit, accompanied by a butoh dancer, a cowboy poet and musicians inspired by the mysteries of the Maya.

On June 3rd, The Beat Goes On as a panel of experts leads a discussion of how well official plans and policies are serving Southern California and if, in fact, it IS "the infrastructure, stupid" that is responsible for air, water, and highway pollution. Environmentalist / Mayor Ron Loveridge of Riverside, Dr. Fernando Guerra, Director of the Center for the Study of Los Angeles, author D. J.Waldie, and their colleagues on the panel will examine the relevance of Jared Diamond's book, "Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed", to the choices elected officials and community leaders are making for the region. Following the discussion, you are invited to tour COLLAPSE?, the Museum's exciting new exhibition inspired by Diamond's latest Best Seller. At 9 p.m. the Natural History Museum will reverberate with the Latin Reggae beat of the B-Side Players. So put on your dancin' shoes and join us at the Natural History Museum on June 3!

Beginning on October 7, 2005, through January 6, 2006, First Fridays will celebrate the first Friday of every month with lively panel discussions, ground breaking films, and exhibits of the latest and most beautiful furniture, fashions and objects made from sustainable materials and "good woods". First Fridays will also feature traditional music reminiscent of ancient cultures, contemporary music on the cutting edge of the day after tomorrow, and dance music from some of best '70s and '80s garage bands in L.A. and places beyond.
