Staff
The Red Rock Canyon family trip is led by a group of professional vertebrate paleontologists and educators from the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Their combined expertise in the geology and paleontology of Red Rock Canyon and in the communication and education of the general public makes this trip a unique experience for children and fossil enthusiasts alike.

David Whistler, Curator Emeritus, Department of Vertebrate Paleontology, trip leader and specialist on fossil small mammals, lizards, and snakes. Dave’s pioneering works on the geology and paleontology of Red Rock Canyon has made this area a well-established location for the study of the late Cenozoic of southern California. In honor of Dave’s life-long contribution to the State Park, a special trail is named after him – Whistler Ridge.
Xiaoming Wang, Associate Curator, Department of Vertebrate Paleontology, co-leader and specialist on fossil carnivores.
Gary Takeuchi, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Vertebrate Paleontology, chief organizer of the trip and specialist in the geology and stratigraphy of Red Rock Canyon.
Jack Tseng, Graduate Student in Residence, Department of Vertebrate Paleontology and Integrative and Evolutionary Biology, University of Southern California, interested in the functional morphology and evolution of bone-crushing carnivores.
Kamaron Sardar, long-time associate of the museum, paramedic and emergency medicine specialist.

Grace Cabrera, Enrichment Programs Assistant, Education Division.
