Setting up the Tents Quick Links:

All participants must bring the following items:

Sturdy walking/hiking shoes (shoes must have a closed toe)
Portable drinking water for each member in your party (canteen or bottled water)
Flashlight with fresh batteries for every member of your party.
Protective clothing and hats. We recommend long sleeve shirts and long pants to protect you from both the sun and the environment.
Sun block and lip balm
Hat and sunglasses
Insect repellent
Dinner for Friday night (or stop to eat on the way)

 

Camping Equipment

Tent, poles, tent stakes, tie-downs (rope or tent line)

  • We recommend that you purchase some additional 1 foot long stakes, since the desert floor is sandy and strong winds can pull up short stakes.
Tarp or ground cloth
Hammer

Sleeping bags for every member of your group

Sleeping pad or air mattress & pump
Pillow
Blankets

Camping lantern

Folding chair


Additional
We recommend that you bring the following items:
Backpack, daypack, or fanny pack

Helpful items to have in the day pack:

Snacks
Ice pick or awl
Whisk broom
Ziplock baggies (sandwich size)
Toilet paper (a.k.a. fossil wrapping paper)
Notebook and pencil or pen
