NIGHT CONVERSATIONS 2

FRIDAY, APR 1, 2005 at 7:00 PM

A night of conversation and music at the Natural History Museum.
......................................................................................................................

Night Conversations invites artists, poets, musicians, and members of the audience to continue the "conversation" that resulted in the unique artist installations and soundscape for the Museum's Conversations exhibit. Night Conversations participants include:

» Host: Merry Norris - art collector, art consultant, and arts advocate
» Artists: Tony Berlant, Ed Moses, Paul McCarthy
» Museum Curators: Margaret Hardin, W. Warner Wood, Jonathan Spaulding

» Beyond Baroque Poets: Will Alexander, Suzanne Lummis, Carlye Archibeque

» Music Designer: Tom Nixon
» Live Music Improvised by: Roberto Catalano, Enzo Fina, Catherine Alexander

» Night Conversations Event Organizer: Rosanna Albertini

In the spirit of the Conversations exhibit, the Natural History Museum has planned an evening of music featuring artists whose work is particularly informed by collaboration.

» Build An Ark – With 18 local luminaries spanning generations and genres, Build An Ark unites once again for a special extended set of majestic soul-jazz.

» Daedelus – Songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, the one and only Daedelus shares his avant-electronic love-sound with a small jazz combo for an unforgettable set of sonic dream vibrations. Expect members of Kneebody and Jogger onstage.

» DJ Jimmy Tamborello – Famous for his memorable collaborations in Dntel and Postal Service, Jimmy Tamborello will serve up some of his favorite music from behind the wheels of steel.

» Dengue Fever – Possibly the best example of audio alchemy in Los Angeles, Dengue Fever are a group of seasoned local musicians joined by Cambodian superstar vocalist Chhom Nimol to perform modern renditions of the vibrant Cambodian rock music of the 60s and 70s. If that sounds amazing, well... it is!

» Busdriver – Though known for founding Project Blowed and his work with a variety of cutting edge L.A. musicians, Busdriver is a musical collaboration unto himself, effortlessly mixing vocal jazz, theatrics and spoken word deep into territory yet uncharted by hip hop.

» Dublab Soundsystem – The cultivated DJ collective known as Dublab returns to drop science at the Natural History Museum with mind-melting body-moving DJ sets from Frosty, B+, Kutmah, Allen, Daedelus, Eric Coleman, Hoseh, Carlos Niño and Tom Chasteen w/ Jah Faith . Expect a few surprise musical guests to grace the soundsystem.

» Video DJs Mekanix and eVICTOR will provide all night visual music by mixing images from the Conversations exhibit with footage from the stage, the dancefloor and the dioramas.

Additionally, the Museum is excited to be able to offer the Conversations print portfolio for sale to our visitors.

Drink concessions by Wolfgang Puck Catering & Events will be available.
