Titled after Edgy Lee's film, this evening foregrounds our interactions – both physical and cultural – with the land and sea. After the screening, a diverse group of land-use and conservation experts will address stewardship vs. ownership, Hawaiian and Californian approaches to land-management and related issues. Next comes a joyous celebration of Hawaiian music and dance as three slack-key guitar masters join forces with a hula icon Auntie Clarice and her troupe of dancer-musicians. Finally, shake it all night long to California funk machine ALO, fresh from their triumphant tour with Jack Johnson.
Throughout the series, video DJs Mekanix and the DJs of Dublab will be on deck mixing sound and image – synthesizing the ideas and creativity of First Fridays. Emcee Mark Torres will preside over each evening's proceedings.
First Fridays is a discussion and performance series that elaborates on the issues raised by our COLLAPSE? exhibit. Tickets include admission to the exhibit.
