Q: What if I don't have an iPod?
A: A limited number of Sonic Scenery audio delivery devices will be available for rent. In order to avoid a long wait in line for a rental, please consider borrowing or sharing an iPod with a friend using a splitter. Or you can download the exhibit, burn a CD, print a playlist, and bring the exhibit on a portable CD player.
Q: What is the admission price?
A: Admission is the cost of the iTunes download to be purchased and loaded on to your iPod before arriving at the Museum. Or you can rent a personal audio delivery device for $3, but please remember — limited quantities are available and there may be a long line.
Q: What are "silent sets"?
A: This is a performance of electronic music that can only be heard with headphones rather than being amplified with speakers. It makes for a personal kind of listening experience that resonates with the nature of the Sonic Scenery exhibit.
Q: How do I hear the "silent sets"?
A: Simply unplug your headphones from your iPod or audio device and plug into an available mini-jack located at a listening station near the performer. There will be a limited number of plugs so please be conscious of others waiting to listen.
Q: Who will be performing "silent sets"?
A: David J, Nobody & Mystic Chords of Memory, Kobol, and Farmer Dave.
Q: Where does the Sonic Scenery exhibit take place?
A: The Sonic Scenery exhibit includes galleries on Level 1 of the Museum. All of Level 1 will be open for this event.
Q: Where does the discussion take place?
A: The discussion will take place in the second floor North American Mammals hall at 7:30pm.
Q: How do I ensure a seat in the discussion?
A: Come early! Seating is limited and awarded on a first come, first served basis.
Q: Where do I park?
A: Public parking is available on the West side of Menlo Avenue across from the Museum. See Directions & Parking for more details. Please enter the Museum from the South entrance closest to the parking lot.
Q: Why should I attend this event?
A: Lots of reasons! Here are a few:
• To see the collections at the Museum from a different perspective — through music!
• To be the first to check out a new kind of audio exhibit.
• To be part of a unique group individual experience that is at once personal and public.
• You are a fan of one or all of the Sonic Scenery artists or "silent set" performers.
• To expand your repertoire of ways to use an iPod.
• It's fun to be in the Museum after hours, sipping a drink next to the dinosaurs.
• To experience the future of museum communication.
