SONIC SCENERY Opening Night:
Download the exhibit. Bring your iPod.

Thanks to everyone who came out and made the Opening Night a success!
Check out the photo gallery!

Listen up! The Natural History Museum invites you to bring your iPod to the opening of Sonic Scenery and be among the first to experience our new audio exhibit of gallery soundtracks. Don your headphones and wander the Museum after hours listening to new collections-inspired compositions by The Sun Ra Arkestra, Ozomatli, Autolux, Nels Cline, Matmos, Jon Hassell, Nobody, Stephen Hartke, Languis, and David J. Pause and plug in to musicians and DJs performing "silent sets" heard only by headphone. At 8pm, join Sonic Scenery artist Jon Hassell, Dublab founder Mark "frosty" McNeill, KCRWs Edward Goldman, and moderator Hope Tschopik Schneider in a discussion of the future of sound in space. After your tour, relax in the Museum's Grand Foyer as Reef Project (AKA Thee-O) spins an iPod DJ set spanning the history of ambient music from Erik Satie to Brian Eno.

So expand your iPod repertoire by exploring sound and space as part of this unique group individual happening! Here's what to do:

  1. Download the Sonic Scenery exhibit from iTunes by choosing "Buy Album".
  2. Bring your iPod and headphones to the Natural History Museum the evening of Friday, February 3rd starting at 7pm.
  3. Explore the galleries on Level 1 by selecting the accompanying track on your iPod and pressing play as you enter the corresponding gallery.
  4. Along the way, listen to "silent sets" by plugging in your headphones to listening stations featuring artists performing live electronic music in select galleries.
  5. Relax, have a drink, repeat.

For more information, please see the FAQ.

"Silent sets" begin at 9:00 pm with:

» Tommy D and Daedelus perform a live dub mix of 3 new recordings by The Sun Ra Arkestra.
» Loop guru Tom Recchion expands the realm of his exotic sound collage to include prehistoric worlds.
