This species was found under coraline rocks in mangroves areas. Adults range in color from mottled brown to solid dark purplish brown/black, while the smaller juvenile was lighter. The conserved pattern on the cheliped helped to identify all as the same species in the field. The species can be identified by the shape of the carapace and the expanded base of the fixed finger of the cheliped.
