 Muskmellon Bay

Back

This view from the Long Point (or Long Man's Point) end of the island shows the effect of the prevailing winds on this peninsula's vegetation. To the left, winds coming from North Bay create drying conditions, resulting in vegetation dominated by grasses and cacti. The more protected leeward side of the island facing Muskmellon Bay is covered by shrubs and trees, which require more moisture.
