I have taken a cool mist humidifyer ($15), which works via a spinning wheel mechanism, and simply floated the mechanism in a large, open reservour. The large room fan ($20) blows the mist out. No longer constrained in its output by the small exit slit on the original reservour, output is several gallons per day.
