Description:
The purpose of the internship is to plan and develop a lecture series for the William S. Hart Museum.  The intern will research topics relating to the Hart Museum such as western art, Native American history, and silent films.  After identifying topics for the lectures, the intern will select artifacts from the Hart Collection that relate to the lecture topics.  Each set of artifacts will be displayed for a period of time leading up to the lecture day.  Although the intern will be responsible for developing topics for and artifacts supporting the lectures, the intern will only be responsible for locating a lecturer for the first lecture.  The first lecture of the series will launch at the close of the internship.  Intern may use the resources of Hart Museum staff and Natural History Museum staff.

Additionally, intern will work with the Hart Museum's collection including the cleaning and rotating of Hart’s Navajo rug collection.  The intern will have a well rounded look at the running of a small museum, and may be asked to assist with leading public tours of the Museum, learning about conservation techniques and exhibit designing, and experiencing small museum management.

Intern training will include learning about William S. Hart and his relevance to local history, as well as museum conservation and pedagogy.  S/He will work closely with the Museum’s Administrator and Education and Collections Coordinator for guidance on her/his project.  Additionally, as part of the intern’s continuing education, field trips to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles and the Page Museum along with other local institutions such as Los Angeles County Museum of Art will be planned.

If you are interested in the summer internship, please send your resume and two letters of recommendation or contact information for two references by May 9th to the William S.
