Segnosaurs comprise the suborder Segnosauria,
a group of dinosaurs recently found in Mongolia, with both saurischian and ornithischian
features . These strange dinosaurs lived in the Cretaceous period
and had theropod-like hips but ornithischian-like cheeks, beak,
and backward slanting pubic bone. Segnosaurs may represent their
own separate line of evolution and they included several families
- the enigmosaurids and the segnosaurids.
The best-known segnosaur is Segnosaurus ( 'slow lizard'). This two-legged dinosaur may have eaten both meat and plants. It was 23-30ft long and had 24 small sharp cheek teeth on each side of its jaw. Segnosaurus also had a narrow toothless beak, short arms with three sharply clawed fingers, and long legs with four-toed feet.
