1. The elephant's trunk can help it to reach food at the tops of trees all the way down to the ground. The elephant's trunk is also used to suck up water and then squirt it into its mouth for drinking.
2. The elephant's thick skin helps to protect it from the hot sun of the savanna.
3. Elephant tusks have many uses-- from digging up the ground in search of salt licks to confrontations over territories or mates. Elephants use one tusk more than the other, like being right handed or left handed. The tusk that is used more is often shorter.
4. The large ears of an elephant are used to keep the animal cool in the hot African sun. Body heat radiates off the large, flat ears and is released into the environment.
