UPDATES for Version 2.0 (DVD)

NOTE: In order to install this update, you must have already copied all images (and other content) to your hard drive.

Before installing the update be sure to close the Photo-Atlas.

WINDOWS VISTA: If your computer has the Windows Vista operating system, you will need to turn off user account control before installing the update. See Installing Version 2.0 (DVD) under Windows Vista for instructions on how to do this. Note that for the Photo-Atlas to work after installing an update it is currently necessary to leave user account control turned off. We are working on a fix for this. If you are worried about the increased vulnerability to attack that this presents, we suggest that you run the original version 2.0 that came on your DVD.
IF YOU HAVE ADDED YOUR OWN PHOTOS to the Photo-Atlas, you will need to follow additional steps so that your photo data will not be lost when the updated database overwrites the earlier one. Before installing the update, please download and read these instructions: Update User Photos.rtf

This is a cumulative update for all users of Version 2.0, regardless of registration number.

Download and install this file:

Update2.05.zip (8.3 MB)

Posted August 3, 2007

After saving the Update2.05.zip file to your hard disk, open it and drag the contents into the directory in which you installed The Photo-Atlas of Mineral. If you used the default during original installation, this will be "C:\Program Files\LACMNH\ Photo-Atlas of Minerals". You should answer "Yes" when prompted to overwrite existing files in that directory. Note that the directory "Photo-Atlas" in the root directory of the drive on which you installed the Photo-Atlas is for storing print and slide show files and is NOT the correct place to copy the update files.

If you are unable to download the update file, contact Jean Brandt to get it by mail on a CD-ROM at no charge.
