Welcome to the Zapotec textile resource pages.  This web site was created as a public service in 1997 and is intended as an informational resource for anyone interested in the Zapotec and their textiles.  Since the early 1980s Zapotec textiles have become increasingly more present in gift shops, galleries, or just about anywhere that  "Ethnic" or "Native American" craft and art items are sold.  At the same time, however, an increasing amount of common misperception, unsubstantiated rumor, and quite frequently out-and-out misinformation has been circulated about them.  This Web Site is intended to counter balance such accounts and offers a straightforward and informative presentation of what Zapotec textiles are, who makes them, and how;as well as providing a list of reliable resources for information about the Zapotec and the textiles they make.

You will find no Zapotec textiles for sale on this site nor do I operate or own any business involved directly or indirectly in the sale of Zapotec textiles.  What you will find is reliable information.
