A Washington D.C. native, Julian C. Dixon began his public service career as an attorney. Congressman Dixon represented the 32nd District in Los Angles in the U.S. Congress, which includes a number of diverse racial, ethnic and cultural communities and economic interests, he served an impressive eleven terms. He served for 11 terms years. Congressman Dixon was known for his progressive stances on issues including civil rights, education, labor and the environment. Congressman Dixon served on the Ethics and Appropriations Committees, was the ranking Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee and Intelligence, and chaired the subcommittee overseeing the District of Columbia. Additionally, he served as the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus. Throughout his career, Congressman Dixon was recognized as an adroit legislator and a unifier of different communities that was able to work in a non-partisan manner. His commitment to his constituents and Los Angeles more generally, is an example of commitment to community and change on the local and national level. |
