INTRODUCTION

The term “General Collections” refers to the Seaver Center’s holdings of manuscripts, maps, records, and ephemera.  General Collection numbers are assigned to the papers of individuals and families, records of organizations and businesses, and various artificial collections (i.e. collections of materials devoted to a single theme, person, event or type of record).  Photographic and book collections are separate from General Collections and are not included in this guide.  For a list of photographic collections, click here. The process of arranging and describing collections is an on-going one which explains why some of the collections are described more completely than others.  Consequently, this guide is modified and updated on a regular basis. An asterisk next to a General Collection number indicates that either a container list or a full finding aid is available for that collection and is accessible in the Seaver Center reading room.
