MALACOLOGY SECTION,
NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY
organization:<>The documents assembled here list all the type specimens in the holdings of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Malacology Section. The specimens are arranged by systematic order in a hierarchical fashion: select in the frame to your left the next lower category, which will load in the frame to your right (this frame). When choosing a particular family you will be directed to the particular spot in a larger document, i.e. not only that particular family will be loaded in the frame (an in-text anchor tag is used). If you wish to print the records of a selected family, click the "print family"-icon: a new window with the selected family only will be shown from which the records can be printed conveniently. In all classes except the Gastropoda, all types of one class are found in a single document. The Gastropoda, however, had to be broken up into five major groups. Further explanations are provided when following the Gastropoda link.
In case a particular link should not work, please reload and let the right frame load completely. Use the white upward arrow in a blue circle
to jump to the top of the page. As these pages are research tools, the use of embellishing graphics has been kept at the bare minimum. (Helps with loading speed, too. Single largest document 93 KB)
Content of records: Each record contains the following data:
Search: In the present form no global search engines for the all molluscan types are implemented. Use your browser's search function to look for specific items in each page. Netscape users note that the first mention of a word is found with the "Find" command (control/command key-F / button in tool bar), subsequent entries in a particular document are located with the "Find Again" command (control/command key-G), both in the "Edit" menu.
The Six Classes: Please select from one of the six classes of mollusks:
Class Aplacophora
Class Monoplacophora
Class Polyplacophora
Class Scaphopoda
Class Gastropoda
Class Bivalvia
