Research

The staff of the Malacology Department at LACM is involved in several research projects on the systematics and taxonomy of recent and fossil gastropod mollusks.

The main research interest of Ángel Valdés is the phylogenetic systematics and biogeography of opisthobranch mollusks. He is currently co-PI of a NSF-funded PEET grant to study the phylogeny of nudibranchs.

James McLean has devoted his carreer to the study of the taxonomy of shelled gastropods and is currently working on his reference manual of the shell-bearing Gastropoda of the Northeastern Pacific.

Lindsey Groves has an active research program on the systematics of fossil cypreid gastropods.
