CHRYSOBERYL, variety Alexandrite BeAl2O4 Takovaya, Urals, Russia
This
rare gem variety was discovered in the Urals in 1833, the same year that Czar
Alexander II was born. This exceptional stone is mounted with diamonds in a
bracelet, which was acquired by the donor's grandfather in Russia in 1887.
Weight: approx. 15 carats
Acquired: 1987 donation from Elizabeth Pedder.
Disposition: On display in the Hixon Gem Vault exhibit.
