SPODUMENE, variety Kunzite

Beebe Hole, Jacumba, San Diego County, California

The Beebe Hole, a little-known pegmatite deposit near the Mexican border, yielded some fine kunzite crystals in 1975. This is probably the most aesthetic crystal from that discovery. It is now nicknamed "numero uno" because of its shape, appearing like the number one.

Size: 22 cm tall

Acquired: 1996 Gem & Mineral Council purchase; available for adoption through the Adopt-a-Mineral program.

Disposition: On display in the California Minerals exhibit.
