Morganite, the orange to pink gem variety of beryl, was first discovered in San Diego County in the early 1900s. It was named in honor of J. Pierpont Morgan. This specimen discovered in the early 1980s is remakable for its large size and intense color.

Acquired: 1986 purchase, Hixon Fund.
Disposition: On display in the California Minerals exhibit.
