The Champion mine was operated for andalusite used in the manufacture of high temperature ceramics for sparkplugs. The mine is best known to collectors for its fine rutile, such as this excellent twinned crystal.
Size: crystal 1.8 cm across
Acquired: 1977 donation, Bandy Collection.
Disposition: On display in the California Minerals exhibit.
