Topaz of a yellow to reddish orange color is called imperial topaz. The only significant world source is the region surrounding the colonial city of Ouro Preto in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. The reddish orange color is valued most highly. Large crystals of this color with few flaws are quite rare.

Size: 8 cm tall (527 carats)

Acquired: 1988 purchase, Hixon Fund.
