MONAZITE

A large monazite crystal found in North Carolina weighed nearly 60 pounds. Though much smaller, this twinned crystal rates as one of the finest because of its excellent form, lustrous faces, and striking color.

Size: 3.3 cm tall

Acquired: 1985 purchase, Foundation Acquisition Fund.

Disposition: On display in the Systematic Mineralogy exhibit.
