Triphylite can hardly be called a rare mineral; it has been found in crude crystals two meters or more in length and weighing several tons. Nevertheless, distinctly well-formed crystals are quite rare. Those from the Smith mine are considered the best.

Acquired: 1987 purchase, Chromy Fund.

Disposition: On display in the Systematic Mineralogy exhibit.
