Gillicus arcuatus

Description: Ray-finned Fish
Specimen location: Niobrara Chalk of Northwestern Kansas
These Gillicus remains are actually the fossilized, partially digested stomach contents from a larger prehistoric fish, Xiphactinus. Scientists have discovered several Xiphactinus skeletons containing the skeleton of a fish it swallowed, usually Gillicus.
