Giant Clams

Specimen location: Niobrara Chalk of Northwestern Kansas

The ancient seas were filled with giant clams and other mollusks. Some, like Platyceramus, looked like modern clams. Others, like Volviceramus, were a bit stranger, with two uneven sides, resembling a coiled bowl with a small lid.
