SAVAGE ANCIENT SEA | MAP

What?

Giant reptiles, fish, squid and clams lived in these waters. By today's standards, many of these sea creatures had a strange and terrifying appearance, much like the dinosaurs living on the land during that same time.

When?

The marine animals in this ancient sea lived between 90 and 65 million years ago. Most of them disappeared from the earth-- along with dinosaurs-- in the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous Period.

Where?

This warm, shallow seaway covered much of modern-day canada and Great Plains from North Dakota to Texas, including much of the area where the Rocky Mountain were formed.
