
During the Cretaceous Period, other continents were also covered by shallow seas, including parts of South America, much of Europe and Russia, and northern and central Africa.

The English Channel (1), located between Great Britain and France, and the San Pedro Channel (2), separating Los Angeles and Santa Catalina Island, are both examples of present-day shallow seas.
