 Class Activities    
A Key to Odds and Ends Students are introduced to a common method of classification used by scientists. They will use this method to "identify" a collection of everyday objects. This is presented in PDF (see above)  
Invent a Key for Echinoderms Students will make observations and use their understanding of classification to create a dichotomous key which will help distinguish several echinoderms. Photo cards for this activity are presented in PDF (see above) with a low resolution Echinoderm Photo Set. Higher Resolution images are available below: Each image is ~3.5" X 5" @ 300 DPI, and are below 500K use The Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print images.

Squid Dissection: From Pen to Ink Through a simple dissection, students will examine some of the unique features which have allowed squid to adapt and thrive in Southern California waters.  
Gone Fishing Students will model old and new fishing technology and examine the effects that the different methods have on fish populations and biodiversity.
