Inside the urban wilderness that opens next year, visitors will be able to spot birds and butterflies, learn to observe and track species with our scientists, engage in gardening workshops and nature walks with our educators, and poke around a new civic green space that is all too rare in Los Angeles.
It will be a purposely layered experience, compelling for all ages — and the way that it inspires wonder, discovery, and responsibility is at the core of what we do already. What will change with Nature Gardens, and the opening of the scientific hub called the Nature Lab, is that we will be able to connect our visitors to both the nature of the past, and the nature living all around them in Los Angeles today.
Project completion: 2013
Total acreage: Three and a half acres
Bird species tracked in Exposition Park to date: 168
“ Trust me, after you’ve been in the Nature Gardens and Nature Lab, you’ll see L.A. nature through new eyes — from the window of an apartment to a schoolyard, from the beach to the mountains, from a city park to your own backyard. You'll see more of the wildlife that is all around us. ”
