Continents move. Climates change. Animals evolve. All over the world, and right here in L.A.
Spectacular and rare specimens will be on display in Age of Mammals — ancient sabertoothed cats, extinct camels, and bizarre ground sloths. But they aren’t the only stars of this show. What makes this exhibit special is the way we connect the planet’s changes with the human story.
In the Rotunda, check out beautiful display cases in a stunning architectural setting. Can shells collect shells? Can mammals lay eggs? The first exhibit will feature strange and visually arresting specimens and objects that inspire fascinating questions.

Meet an iconic Triceratops, a huge aquatic Morenosaurus swimming through the air, and your new friend, Thomas the T. rex, who is grouped with T. rexes of different ages to illustrate how dinosaurs grow. These startling specimens, coupled with simulated dig sites and touchable fossils, will bring you behind the scenes of paleontology in Dinosaur Mysteries!
Outside, we're building "learning gardens" on top of an underground parking structure. That means three acres of new green space, and a place we can learn about the nature in our Southern California backyard.
Under the Sun will explore the history of Los Angeles in a new way.
The Los Angeles River once flowed where the Museum stands today. A fossil of an ancient whale has been unearthed near downtown Los Angeles; early settlers left traces of their lives. There is so much history in our own backyard.
Want to hold the world in your hands? In our lively new Discovery Center space nearly everything will be interactive and will provide fun learning experiences for children and adults.
