The Museum's world famous dioramas in the African Mammal Hall and the North American Mammal Halls show animals in their natural environments. In life, many of these mammals are shy, and some are nocturnal, so these scientifically accurate dioramas provide the only way most of us can get close to these creatures in their natural habitats. Dioramas feature mammals including elephants, lions, bison, cooyote, and bears, backgrounds painted by well-known artists, and habitats that include birds, reptiles, and insects.
