A Field Trip to Remember!

School Groups

School groups are welcome throughout the year, and groups that schedule their reservations at least three weeks in advance receive free admission. Groups with 10 or more students, grades Pre K - 12, from public schools, private schools, home schools, Head Start programs, and child development centers are considered to be school groups.  (Are you a group but not a school?  Please contact our Group Sales Office: groupsales@nhm.org)

California State Standards & Open Court

Pre K to grade 12, a trip to NHM will help you meet California State Standards including Natural Science and Social Science standards.

Docent Enhanced Visits

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings, school groups can participate in a wide variety of interactive experiences led by Museum docents. 

Docent Presentations give students an up close look at objects and artifacts in various Museum galleries.  Presentations are approximately 15 minutes in length and run repeatedly between 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, subject to availability.

Docent-led Highlights Tours give students an introduction to the Museum and its contents.  Highlight tours are approximately 30 minutes in length and are offered between 9:30 am - 10:15 am, subject to availability. 

Docents are not available during the Thanksgiving, winter, spring, and summer breaks.

Field Trip Extras

Add to your field trip experience. The following field trip extras require advance reservation and often fill up months in advance.  Some programs are seasonal and require additional fees.

Dinosaur Encounters Free. Availability: Wed - Fri, seasonal
Discovery Center and Insect Zoo Free. Availbility: Mon - Fri. Closed temporarily starting Oct. 2, 2009.
Hop, Slither, and Stalk Free. Availability: Mon - Fri, seasonal
Pavilion of Wings $1 per person. Availability: Mon - Fri, April - September 2010
Spider Pavilion $1 per person. Availability: Mon - Fri, September - November 2009
