Public transportation is a great option. NHM is centrally located and convenient to many bus lines and the DASH Route F. A great way to check out all the ways to get to the Museum is the TransitPeople website.

Reservations still required.
Register early for the best selection of possible dates and times. Registration begins in August for the academic year. Many dates, especially during the spring, fill up months in advance, as do reservations for field trip extras like the Butterfly Pavilion, Spider Pavilion, and Dinosaur Encounters.
School groups, pre-kindergarten - 12th grade, that schedule their reservations at least three weeks in advance receive free admission.
The Butterfly and Spider Pavilion is now free with reservations.
There is a $10 parking fee for each school bus and automobile, and $12 for charter buses. Parking fees are not set by NHM and are subject to change without notice.
Visiting early in the school year (September - March) is greatly encouraged. The Museum is less crowded at this time, and your group will be able to better appreciate and explore the Museum's halls and special exhibits.
Special programming for Pre-K - 5th grade groups is offered October - January.
There is a lovely picnic area and rose garden in the park that surrounds the Museum.
Please note: No food or drink is allowed inside the Museum, and the Museum does not provide a facility for storing lunches. All lunches must remain on the bus(es) or in your car.
Due to limited capacity, all school groups are required to make an additional reservation to visit these areas. When registering for a school visit, be sure to indicate if you would also like a reservation in the Insect Zoo and Pavilions. These reservations fill quickly, so book early.
Always have a sufficient number of chaperones. A one to ten ratio is required for all groups.
If visiting the Butterfly or Spider Pavilion, the first 30 guests (student and adult) are free. Any additional adults will be required to pay the $3 admission.
Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Museum staff will check-in your school group at the Museum's South Entrance. Bring your reservation form and be prepared to provide the number of students and adults in your group.
Within walking distance of NHM are three other popular school group destinations: the California Science Center (including the Air and Space Gallery), the California African American Museum, and the Exposition Park Rose Garden (seasonal).
