Tips for Visits

When To Visit

Fall and Winter are great times to visit!  The Museum is less crowded giving your students more opportunities get up close to exhibits, take time in galleries, and interact with Education staff and volunteers.

Teacher Previsit

Visit before your field trip and explore NHM on your own. All teachers and chaperones are admitted to NHM for free. Simply present your school identification at the admission desk or print out our Teacher's Pass.

Have a Plan

Prepare an assignment or activity for your students to complete at the Museum.  See our Teachable Moments: A Guide for Your Field Trip teacher materials for quick, grade-specific, gallery specific ideas.

Chaperones

Always have a sufficient number of chaperones. A one to ten ratio is required for all groups. 

For Kindergarten through High School groups, additional chaperones are welcome and will be admitted for free.

For Pre-Kindergarten, Head Start, and Child Development Center groups, a chaperone to student ratio of one to five is recommended. Additional chaperones are welome and will be admitted for free.
