EDUCATOR WORKSHOPS

 

First-time Science Fair Training
Thursday, October 2, 2014, 4 - 6 pm

Turn Science Fairs into the ultimate opportunity for problem-based learning! Learn to support and facilitate students through topic choice, project approval, research, and display production. The best part? Do it all while engaging students and meeting 21st century skills and Next Generation Science and Engineering Practices. For grades 6-12.

After the workshop, join the NHM for Citizen Science and Cocktails  to hear how we are learning about L.A.'s biodiversity with the help of our citizens. Additional RSVP required.

Laws, Theories and Hypotheses: Revealing Science through Words
October 11, 2014. 9 am - 1 pm

Definition and use of terminology directly impacts our understanding of science. In this workshop, we’ll work with Dr. Paul Narguizian, a CSULA specialist in science education, to define and understand key vocabulary. Take these skills back to the classroom and lead Nature of Science discussions with students of any age, build their scientific literacy, and support the NGSS.

Animal Care for the Classroom
November 8, 2014. 9 am - 1 pm

Animals at school can inspire inquiry, enhance learning, and connect students to the natural world. In this workshop, Museum animal care expert Leslie Gordon will cover what you need to know when getting, caring for, and teaching with a classroom critter!
