Come Shine with the Gem & Mineral Council

The Gem & Mineral Council offers its members opportunities to advance their knowledge and enjoyment of gems and minerals within the unique context of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. The Council provides a varied schedule of activities including exciting field trips, educational lectures, and exclusive social events.

The Council includes gem and mineral enthusiasts of all kinds. Many well-known authorities in the gem and mineral world belong. The interaction between amateur and professional encourages the sharing of knowledge and experience.

The Natural History Museum is highly regarded internationally for its acquisition, exhibition, and research efforts in the field of gems and minerals and the Gem & Mineral Council is a vital element in the support of these programs. At the same time, the resources of the Natural History Museum open new avenues of exploration, education, and communication for Council members.

Since its inception in the Spring of 1985, the Council has continued to grow and increase in vitality, and it remains the foremost museum gem and mineral support and public programming organization in the world.
