The Cretaceous, spanning from approximately 145 to 65 millions years ago, records the diversification of many familiar groups of dinosaurs (horned and duck-billed dinosaurs, among others), as well as the origin of many modern groups of tetrapods. The Dinosaur Institute houses an extensive collection of Cretaceous tetrapods, particularly rich in those of the Late Cretaceous, including a unique growth series of Tyrannosaurus rex and exceptional specimens of marine reptiles.
