The Prep Lab is a very important part of the process of discovering the mysteries of our dinosaur eggs. This is where technicians stabilize the fossils that were collected in the field so they can be researched and displayed.

Conditions in the field make it tough to handle delicate fossils. Fossils are brought back from the field encased in matrix (the surrounding rock) and plaster jackets.

A preparator has to have a lot of patience and knowledge about the fossil being prepared. Preparation is a slow and tedious process that can take a very long time to complete. A preparator might also have to fill in the missing pieces of the fossil to stabilize it or to make it presentable for museum display. This takes a very artistic person to do this job and there are only a few that are exceptional at this task.
