Sabrina Burris

Associate Vice President, IDEA

Sabrina Burris is the Associate Vice President, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and La Brea Tar Pits. Her focus is to operationalize the Transformational IDEA Framework and IDEA Action Plan to culturally embed NHMLAC values into every facet of the institution.

Burris has over twenty years of experience leading highly complex advancement, cultural, and DEI programs providing leadership for institutions including Howard University, UCLA, and UC Berkeley. Over the past seven years, she has served as an inaugural member of the Museum’s Community Engagement Council, a steering committee member for Understanding Nature and Los Angeles Biodiversity (UNLAB), an NSF-funded post-baccalaureate training program, and led the annual giving team to its most successful fundraising year in 2019. Burris currently serves as a member of the advisory committee for the Cultural Equity and Inclusion Initiative (CEII) for the Los Angeles County Art Commission. Since 2020, she has participated in the development and implementation of the first racial equity plan for Los Angeles County with the Anti-Racism Diversity & Inclusion (ARDI) Initiative. A proud graduate of Hampton University, Burris has received 20 commendations from Congress, the Senate, and the California State Legislature for her invaluable service to the community with special recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic.
