At the Natural History Museum, discover your world, past and present. Your group will encounter dinosaurs, experience nature, explore our dioramas, and marvel at one of the most impressive gem and mineral collections in the world. And that’s just the beginning.
We welcome groups of all shapes and sizes, and want to provide you with an experience your group will never forget. Whether you are planning a visit for a few hours or have all day, we’ll make it easy for you to customize your trip.
Bring your group to see the world premiere of Mummies: New Secrets from the Tombs. Get a rare, up-close look at a selection of over 20 mummies, as well as richly decorated coffins, sarcophaguses, mummification tools, and mummies of birds, cats, and crocodiles, many of which have never been on public display. Interactive touchtables will allow your group to “unwrap” layers of mummies, and see the precious objects the bodies were buried with, as well as vivid details about the individual children, teens, and adults who lived out their lives in the ancient times. Using the modern technology of CT scans, scientists have revealed a detailed look back into long-vanished cultures of ancient Peru and Egypt.
Mummies: New Secrets from the Tombs was developed by The Field Museum, Chicago.
Wander through a unique changing ecosystem and witness over 30 species of free-flying butterflies interacting with plant life all around you.
Marvel at hundreds of spiders spinning their intricate webs in our one-of-a-kind Spider Pavilion. Get up close to all things creepy crawly and witness free-ranging spiders spinning their spectacular webs for all to see.
A timed-ticket is needed for our Special Offerings, and Pavilion times fill up fast. We recommend you make your reservation when you book your group.
Create a day your group will never forget by adding on one of our group tours. Let our Gallery Interpreters take your group on a private tour of one of our exhibits:
Get an in-depth look at our temporary exhibition, Mummies: New Secrets from the Tombs, with a guided tour. Your group will learn more about these individuals who lived in ancient Egypt and Peru and the new technology that is helping to reveal their fascinating stories and traditions.
Travel to the past in our Dinosaur Hall. From the tiny fruitadens, the size of a chihuahua, to the towering T. rex, discover the biggest, the smallest and everything in between. Get a closer look at some of the new discoveries made by NHM’s Dinosaur Institute in the field of paleontology.
Explore our Nature Gardens, see the amazing plant life and the wildlife it attracts. Learn how our researchers are studying the incredible biodiversity that calls Los Angeles home in this new outdoor exhibit.
Tours can be added for a group of 10 or more people and one week advance notice is required for a group tour.
Small groups can go behind-the-scenes in a truly special Museum experience:
Experience for yourself what it’s like to be a part of our Dino Institute. Start with a private tour of the Dinosaur Hall lead by one of our Gallery Interpreters and get a closer look at some of the new discoveries made by NHM’s Dinosaur Institute in the field of paleontology.
Afterwards go off-exhibit with a member of our Dino Institute into our collections area to see fossils not on display to the public. Travel through the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous time periods in our behind-the-scenes collections. Experience for yourself what it is like to work on dinosaur bones inside our actual Paleontology Lab. Here you will be able to get hands-on with a real dinosaur bone and help extract it from the matrix that surrounds it. Recommended for any dinosaur lover or paleontological enthusiast.
